COVID 19 work

I was pretty worried for a while that I might run out of work during this period of economic slowdown.

However, reality hasn’t changed, and computers still break. As a network technician, so long as computer networks are being used, I will probably have work.

I have also been following Joseph Prusa’s efforts on helping with the COVID 19 pandemic. He makes excellent points that ventilators and filtration masks are not ideal targets for rapid prototype machines. Instead, he released an excellent face shield that has been remixed into something that could be cheaply reproducible here in Taos county.

If you know medical technicians in need of face PPE in the Enchanted Circle area, please contact me.

And of course, if you need assistance in teleworking or other remote telecommunications, please let me know.

3D Printer Capabilities

We currently have three operational 3d printers in our shop:

  • A Prusa V2 printer, mostly from Makerfarm
  • A large format DBot, water cooled and chambered
  • An Anycubic Photon DLP printer, mostly stock

The Prusa V2 is a direct feed .35 mm variant, and can print rubber, PLA, and ABS in high x-y resolution. It is an older machine, though. It is slow, and the j-head type extruder does like to jam. It can comfortably print 5″ x 5″ x 4″ high.

The DBot is a CBot/DBot hybrid, with most of its parts having been cycled through and printed by itself. It has dual water cooled E3d nozzels, currently set at .5mm diameter for speed. It currently has a bowden setup, although I am looking to switch that out for a Automatic Tool Changer setup including a direct drive nozzle for printing NinjaFlex and the like. The current build volume is 8″ x 8″ x 12″ high.

The Anycubic Photon is a resin printer using a high resolution LCD screen to project UV light into a vat of UV curable resin. I am using this to make classic car parts. I don’t like it as much as the FDM printers. It stinks and requires gloves and PPE. But it produces very fine, super high resolution parts for a very reasonable price. The build volume is 4.5″ x 2.5 ” x 6″ high.

Creating a Website

I have been asked to look into creating a simple e-commerce web presence for a client.

After exploring options with my old web provider, and their lack of support for an automated SSL option, I have decided to move to a Brownrice VPS.

So far this has been awesome. These guys are the experts, and know what they are doing.
